"Remain United and take FSSAI to large heights"….. ………… was the message given by Sh. V. N. Gaur, Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety & Standards Authority of India, who relinquished the charge on 23rd February,2012 after steering the FSSAI for 3 years (from framing of Rules, Regulation to un-rolling of the complete Food Safety Act 2006.) From 9th September, 2011 till 27th January 2012, Mr. Gaur was also officiating as Chairperson of Food Authority.

Under his leadership, a large number of Food Safety related issues had been discussed and resolved.

The Food Import Clearance System, Online Central Licensing, Responsibilities of Food Business Operators, Linkage with Important Institution like NIN (National Institute of Nutrition), Hyderabad, NIPH, Hyderabad, IGNOU, Delhi, Snap Shot National Milk Survey, Expert Group on Antibiotics in Honey, Draft Standard on Alcoholic Drinks, Training & Capacity Building for Food Regulators, Guidelines of Safe Food & Tasty Food, Gap Study for large number of State Laboratories, Integration of Codex as National Codex Control Point(NCCP) in Food Authority with Shadow Committee in various Ministries are a few milestones. Other similar initiatives are in the pipe line and once approved will make the Enforcement and Surveillance a simple but effective method of Governance, in Food Safety.

As head of the Central Advisory Committee (CAC), he is also brought about integration amongst State & Union Territories officials and provided continual guidance for implementing the Food Safety Act, both in letter and spirit.

Director (Admn) on behalf of Food Authority, placed on record the humble, humane as well, valuable contribution of Shri V. N. Gaur whose interpersonal skills and other transformational leadership efforts brought about a distinct synergy amongst all FSSAI employees
