Food safety lecture February 2011

Food safety standards Authority of India as per the mandate of FSS Act, 2006 is a science based organization where all the decision with regard to fixation of food standards are to be taken on the basis of risk assessment after taking into account relevant scientific facts. It is, therefore, necessary that FSSAI keeps itself abreast with latest in the field of food science and technology. With a view to achieve this objective, FSSAI has started the lecture series on food science related topics which will be delivered by leading experts in their respective fields. The topics for the lecture related to frontier areas of food technology like GM food, Nano food etc.

latest risk assessment techniques etc. The first lecture in this series was organized on 4/2/2011 Ghaziabad where Assistant Director General (ADG) & officiating Director, FRSL assisted by other experts made a presentation on various techniques adopted for food testing, latest development as well as simple method for testing, common adulterants in food items of daily consumption. Demonstration was given of hightech equipment like GLC (Gas Liquid Chromatography), AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrometer) HPTLC (High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography) etc.

Utilizing this opportunity, discussion also held regarding plans for upgradation of FRSL Ghaziabad to an international standard laboratory which can also serve as National Standard setting Laboratory under the FSSAI.
