Draft to amend Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction on Sales) Regulations, 2011 prescribing addition of Indigo Caramine or Brilliant Blue up to 10ppm in non-edible ice

1.      (1) These regulations may be called the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction on Sales) Amendment Regulations, 2020.

(2) They shall come into force with effective date for implementation to be either 1st January or 1st July subject to a minimum of 180 days from the date of their final publication in the official Gazette

22. In the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction on Sales) Regulations, 2011,

(1)  In regulation 2.3, Prohibition and Restriction on sale of certain products, under sub-regulation 2.3.14 Restrictions relating to conditions for sale, after clause (20), following shall be inserted, namely-

 

“(21) Indigo Carmine or Brilliant Blue up to 10 ppm must be used in production of non-edible ice, including non-edible ice blocks coming in contact with food products during preservation/storage/transportation of perishable food commodities, to give it a bluish look/appearance so as to enable clear differentiation with edible ice which must remain colourless.”
